Soundshop with special guests Shabazz Palaces hosted a workshop with Kamaile Academy on February 15th, 2019 at the Doris Duke Theater in Honolulu, O‘ahu.
Theme: What Does Your Culture Sound Like? Past, Present, Future
Objectives:
• Students were introduced to the local Soundshop administrators/artists and internationally touring artists Shabazz Palaces through performances and group discussions where they shared personal and professional stories.
• Students explored the importance of drawing inspiration from and celebrating their cultural, familial, and/or personal foundation.
• Students were taken on a tour of the Arts of Hawaii gallery where they drew inspiration for their exercises.
• Students were prompted to identify and explore the special and unique aspects of themselves and where they come from.
• Students learned how to utilize their creativity and imagination to build upon their foundation.
• Students learned about rhyming techniques used in hip hop songwriting
• Students were introduced to beat making concepts and techniques
